Reports first surfaced in mid-August that Harry and Meghan intended to return. King Charles was informed on a Sunday; the Prince and Princess of Wales were also told. The family will remain non-working royals with no official duties or royal residence.

But they can be civil, they can cooperate, and they can stop feeding the story that the royal family is permanently divided. This isn’t about forgiveness. It’s about strategy. Kate is thinking about the institution and the future, when William is King and she is Queen.”
The same source described her mindset clearly: “Kate is a chess player. She doesn’t need Harry to love William. She needs him to stop fighting him.”
