A Routine Appointment Turns Tragic
On July 16, 2025, Adrienne Jones-McAllister was at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, New York, for a knee scan. When the exam finished, she asked the technician to call her husband in to help her off the table — something the couple had done before without incident.
Keith entered the room wearing a large metallic chain, roughly 20 pounds with a lock, that he used for weight training. According to police and his wife’s account, the machine’s intense magnetic field immediately grabbed the chain.
“At that instant, the machine switched him around, pulled him in, and he hit the MRI,” Adrienne later told local reporters. She recalled screaming for someone to turn the machine off and call 911.
Both she and the technician tried to free him. They could not. Keith remained pinned to the machine for nearly an hour before the chain could be released.
The Aftermath
Emergency responders rushed Keith to a hospital in critical condition. He suffered multiple heart attacks in the hours that followed. He died the next day, July 17, 2025.
Nassau County police confirmed that the 61-year-old had entered the MRI room without authorization while a scan was in progress and that the metallic chain caused him to be drawn into the machine, triggering a medical episode. An investigation continues.
Adrienne described the final moments she witnessed: “He waved goodbye to me and then his whole body went limp.”
A Life Remembered
Keith McAllister was remembered by family as a husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. A GoFundMe launched by relatives described the profound loss felt by those who loved him.
The family has since sought legal counsel, saying they want accountability for what happened.

MRI machines use extremely strong magnetic fields. Any ferromagnetic object — from oxygen tanks to jewelry to tools — can be pulled with tremendous force. Fatal and serious accidents involving metal objects near active scanners have occurred before, though they remain rare when strict screening protocols are followed.
